8 tips to stay hydrated cycling in Mallorca summer

Mallorca summer easily hits 30 °C. The difference between enjoying or suffering a ride is hydration. These are the 8 tips we repeat the most at the shop.
1. Start hydrated
Drink 500 ml-1 l water 2 h before leaving. Thirst during the ride means you're already late.
2. At least one bottle per hour
Minimum 500 ml/hour; July-August bump to 750 ml. Carry 2 bottles — empty and refill.
3. Don't wait until you're thirsty
Program a sip every 15-20 minutes, even without thirst. Keep the rhythm.
4. Electrolytes, not just water
Sweat loses sodium, potassium, magnesium. Use one isotonic tab per 750 ml or one bottle of sports drink. Pure water on 2h+ rides can cause hyponatremia.
5. Clothing that helps
6. Plan your stops
Cala Ratjada, Capdepera, Artà, Son Servera and Canyamel have public fountains and bars every 10-15 km. Note water points before riding.
7. Know the symptoms
Mild dehydration: heavy thirst, dry mouth, dark urine. Dizziness, cramps or cold skin with heat = stop, find shade and drink with salts.
8. Rehydrate on return
After the ride: 1.5 l per kg lost. Add water-rich fruit (watermelon, melon) and a salty meal.

Bottles, packs or camelbak
On road, 2 bottles is enough. On MTB or gravel 3h+, a 1.5-2 l hydration pack is peace of mind. We rent them in the shop for €3/day.
