Winter cycling in Mallorca: benefits and tips

While the rest of Europe pedals below zero, Mallorca offers mild winters: 12-18 °C daytime, abundant sun and almost-empty roads. If you've never come in December or January, you're missing the island's best version.

Why train here in winter

  • Weather: 9 in 10 days dry. 4 h ride with arm warmers and a vest.
  • Quiet: no tourist crowds, no group rides. Roads are yours.
  • Pro teams: Movistar, Jumbo and other World Tour squads train here in January.
  • Low prices: flights and hotels half of May rates. Rental discounts.
  • Perfect winter routes

  • Cala Ratjada → Capdepera → Artà (40 km): always sunny, no north wind.
  • Llevant Loop (90 km): inland, sheltered.
  • Lower Tramuntana: Andratx → Estellencs → Banyalbufar (60 km): warmer than the highlands.
  • Es Pla (central plain, 80 km): ideal on grey or windy days.
  • Mallorcan winter kit

Not as cold as you think, but mornings are fresh:

  • Long-sleeve thermal jersey
  • Long bibs or short + leg warmers
  • Wind vest (key)
  • Thin gloves + buff
  • Light overshoes
  • By midday you'll likely shed layers. Bring a small pack or stuff your pockets.

    What's open and closed

Open: local bars and restaurants (12 € set lunch), all bakeries and roadside cafes.

Closed: many beach bars, some boutique hotels. Book accommodation ahead.

    Recommended bikes

For these months Scott Addict 30 or Orbea Avant are ideal. For Tramuntana consider the Scott Addict 50 with wide cassette.

Book November-February with 15 % discount on base rates. Same-day availability.
